Tape Measure Antenna Building

The session will begin at 08:30 at Fire Station #7 (SUBJECT TO CHANGE). We will be building a “Tape Measure” VHF Beam, suitable for Direction Finding and Portable Operations. The information sheet is attached. Participants are responsible for their own material. A pictorial parts list is in the instructions. Be sure to purchase 1 ½” hose clamps. *Parts are available at Lowe’s and Home Depot, not sure about the local hardware stores though.
PARTS LIST:
1 ea. 5’ piece of ½” PVC (SCHED 40) pipe*
6 ea. 11/16” to 1 ½” hose clamps*
2 ea. ½” PVC Cross Fitting*
1 ea. ½” PVC Tee Fitting*
1 ea. ½” PVC 45° Elbow Fitting*
1 ea. Tape Measure with a 1” wide blade* – One tape makes two antennas, buy the cheapest one you can find
1 ea. Coax Jumper with SMA connector (We will have a limited supply of these jumpers available.) – K3GWK will bring some RG-58 coax to the session for the jumpers.
K3GWK will supply the wire for the “Hair Pin” matching section and the tape for covering the ends of the elements.
TOOLS:
Soldering Iron and Solder
Basic Hand Tools – Wire Cutter, Straight Slot Screwdriver, etc.
Dremel Hand Tool with Grinder bit (If you have one, bring it along, Don’t buy one just for this project.)
PVC Cutter (If you have one, bring it along. Don’t buy one just for this project.)
